Subject: Question about ZX14
Date Posted: May/25/2009 at 11:33pm

I just installed a Alien Head exhaust and the Brocks street map, at about 2500 RPM cruseing the bike makes a hissing noise almost like air entering or escapeing and the bike bucks a little. If you are on the throttle she is fine any ideas whats goin on? I have changed the plugs over the winter other than that I havent touched the motor, I re grounded the PC and reinstalled the map dont know what elce to do any suggestions.

Can you tell where the hissing sound is coming from?  It is possible that if you left a vacuum hose disconnected that it could make that sound.

It only makes the sound every now and than , I followed the instructions to a tee but maybe it slipped off or wasnt installed in far enough. I will check it out.

I checked the pipe that was modded and it was fine, I also looked at the coil sticks and one was in the opposite direction from what the repair manual shows so I put that the way it was supposed to be. I will ride her tomorrow to see if there is any difference.

It is still hesitating in second and third when crusing at about 2500RPM, put on the throttle a little more and it is fine only in that spot in the RPM's.Any ideas? Thanks.

Have you tried running MR 11 through it to clean the injectors?

I ran the ground jumper wire accross to the bike ground post reset the PCIII and re loaded the map. It is running great now but I am still gonna run fuel injection cleaner through it anyway.Thanks.

I just installed the Manual cam chain tensioner and deciced to check the throttle bodies. I tightened up the bottom clamps a bit more they seemed a bit loose top's were ok. this may of been causing the sound as well, she is still doing it at about 2500 rpm sometimes. I will keep looking for the cause.

The bike has stopped the surging at 2500/3000rpm I have recently had the valves checked and shimmed correctly and now she seems fine.

Still has the surge gonna pull the fuel pump this winter and see if the filter is clogged.....the sputter is more of a nuisance than a problem, as of now I just learned to live with it.

We no longer use the race gas cures - the above works better. I added the note about the filter, just in case.

I will pull the K&N filter that I have in the bike and put the stock one back in see if it helps. I hear of other guys having the same problem after changing the gearing.

eliminator,

The surge from a gearing change is only on the 2012-13 ZX-14R versions with the wheel speed indicators.

eliminator,

I sent you a special map to test. The oxygen content in the fuel in your area may be a concern.

Let me know what you think.
