Aftermarket products NOT available from Brocks Performance: As a general rule, if you don't see a particular product available in our Brock's Performance store.. Its because we do not consider it worth selling! We use what we sell and we sell what we use. We pay little or no attention to market trends or fancy product marketing. The bottom line is this; if Brock feels that a particular product should be used on your motorcycle to make it BETTER in any way, we try to make it available through Brocks so that we can provide the highest level of customer support possible. If a particular product is not listed in our store (example: aftermarket gauze type air cleaners for STREET use) it's because we have found them to be no advantage compared to stock. We don't want you to waste your money any more than you do and we certainly don't want to direct you to purchasing a product which will slow you down.

Naturally, there are some exceptions to this rule for particular use (street/drag race/land speed/road race/grudge race with large displacement engines etc.) we recommend calling our technical support staff for specifics.

ALL MOTORCYCLE OWNERS SHOULD REFERENCE THE 99-2007 HAYABUSA TEST AND RACE INFORMATION as this is our longest running and most updated information section :  www.brocksperformance.com/forum/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=11&TopicID=13&PagePosition=1

Subject 2016/2017 ZX-14R

Factory O2 Sensors:
The factory 2016/2017 ZX-14R ECU contains a closed loop area of fuel control (for emissions) that must be disabled, as well as the 02 sensor. These have been disabled in our ECU flash – DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE BROCK’S PERFORMANCE MAPS WITHOUT OUR FLASH.

Dynojet O2 optimizer:
The Dynojet O2 optimizer does not function with this machine, and is not required when using our flash.

Power Commander:
The 2012-2015 Dynojet PCV unit (#17-005) installs directly onto the 2016-2017 machines and will work correctly - **IF** the bike has:

1.    Our Brock’s Performance ECU Flash

2.    Our Brock’s Performance PCV mapping to match our ECU flash

Exhaust without our flash/ PCV combination:
If you decide to run our exhaust, with a 12mm adaptor and use the OEM O2 sensor, stock ECU etc. Your bike will run excessively lean at lower throttle openings and cruising speeds and excessively rich most everywhere else. If you decide to add a power commander and our map, without our ECU flash, the bikes closed loop area in the ECU will constantly remove fuel in the cruising areas, basically rendering our performance mapping useless.

December 29, 2007

We have just completed mapping for use with Ivans TRE-006A to help eliminate decel pop on the 2006/07 ZX-14s. (2008 mapping will be completed soon)

Ivans description from his web site:

  • TRE-006A - $60.00
    2006 & 2007 ZX-14
  • Requires sub-throttle plate removal & special mapping.
  • Gets rid of fuel shut-off on decell -
This will allow smooth on/off throttle transitions and will get rid of the annoying pop when the throttle is reapplied.
  • Gets rid of part throttle timing retarder in lower gears.
  • Our maps are only available with a minimum purchase of $200.00 or more.

Of course, we needed to test this gadget ourselves where we spend most of our time... at the drag strip!

Preliminary tests from satellite race teams were not very promising. A couple of bikes noticed a SLIGHT slow down in E.T. and MPH at the drag strip. This was even after correction to the mapping using our Innovate LM-1 wideband system to eliminate mapping errors from our testing.

All teams reported that the decel popping was nearly eliminated.

Honestly, we are not exactly sure why the bikes slowed down. My best guess is that there may be an ignition curve issue which comes into play with the addition of the TRE-006A? We speculate (via testing) that the bike is simply locked into the neutral map (although Ivans instructions dispute this)who knows what a neutral ignition curve may look like compared to the other gears? This is very difficult to measure and really doesnt matter to us as the final track performance is what we look for here at Brock's Performance Products (Performance is our middle name, you know!)

The reality is that the full throttle dyno power numbers with the TRE-006A after mapping were almost the same as without it. The drivability after mapping is consistent with our current 'no flies' mapping with no real improvement or loss comparatively, and the decel pop is almost completely gone. We mapped at an A/F ratio to provide optimum fuel mileage and drivability.

I believe the guys who really dislike the decel pop will enjoy the new combination without noticing any seat-of-the-pants loss in performance on the street. The race guys always have the option of testing all of our available combinations to see which works the best for them. I will be the first to admit that a drop in power under the right circumstances can actually lead to quicker E.T.s from a greater ability to control the bike, differing riding styles, chassis and gearing set-up, etc. Try different combinations yourself- its FUN to learn what works best for YOU!

We pride ourselves on helping our customers be as happy as possible with our products and combinations.even if we would never do anything to slow our own bikes down. We recognize that a large percentage of our street crowd doesnt try to squeak out the final hundredths out of their bikes at the track, but simply want them to please them on the street with fantastic drivability and acceleration without making noises which remind them of their old KZ1000s with improperly jetted smooth-bore carbs!

As always, our maps are always free for as long as you own your system, and any map sharing will eliminate you from the type of information you are reading now.

Please feel free to fill out a previously approved map support (short form) and list TRE-006A map in the notes, located here:  http://www.brockracing.com/forummapsupport.html

Please note:

  1. We only created one TRE-006A map to match all of our street-based systems; Alien Head/Generation 3 (standard and new shorty oval) /Street Megaphone and new Short Meg.
  2. The secondary throttle plates MUST be removed for this combination to function correctly, or large low end power losses will be noticed.
  3. ANY air cleaner; BMC race, BMC street, Pipercross, stock, etc. will work fine using this map for street use.
  4. Pump gas of any readily available octane rating is also fine for street use.
  5. We see no need to create RACE MAPS for a product which can slow down your bike! We do not and will not create 'race gas,' 'air cleaner removed,' or 'sidewinder' maps for this reason. Please see one of our current race configurations for track use.
  6. You will lose your gear position indicator functionality. It will display 'N' all of the time. (Ivans instructions claim that the 'N' does not stand for 'neutral,' but for non emissions mode of the ecu Kawasaki Technical Support sites environmental concerns as the reason this is NOT the case!)

Good luck and GO FAST (without popping!)

Brock

PS. Maps will begin shipping via e-mail the first week of Jan. 2008. Please feel free to call our sales staff at 937-912-0054 to order your TRE-006A as it is not yet up on our web site. You may also contact  sales@brockracing.com for pricing/availability, etc.

2008 ZX-14 Owners **ONLY**

Hello and thank you for your 2008 ZX-14 exhaust purchase from Brocks Performance!

Kawasaki has changed the ECU on the 2008 ZX-14 which renders all of our previous mapping unusable. We will send you maps the moment they are available. Your map support form is flagged for top priority--we WILL NOT FORGET. Precise mapping takes a bit of time as the ZX-14 is a very map-specific machine. PLEASE be PATIENT and realize that WE WANT you to have the correct mapping ASAP so your bike (and our exhaust!) performs at its BEST.

Until the new mapping is available, YOU MAY INSTALL your new system without a power commander/mapping with NO PROBLEMS as long as you follow these simple rules:

  1. Note: The  items listed here previously have been removed as they are no longer valid. We have all 2008 ZX-14 available through our map support program.

The internal mapping in the stock 2008 ZX-14 ECU is rich enough to supply fuel in conjunction with a performance exhaust system with no chance of engine damage and drivability will not suffer (much) if the steps above are taken. Of course, maximum acceleration, drivability, and performance will be recognized with the installation of our new mapping.

Please Note: Dynojet Power Commander IIIusb Part #234-411 for the 2008 ZX-14 is not included. Discounts are available with pipe purchase--ask Brocks sales department for more details 937-912-0054 or sales@brockracing.com .

Sorry for the inconvenience; we are working as quickly as possible.

Brock

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All ZX-14 Owners:

Note: The TRE simply opens the secondaries sooner than stock for a boost of low end power. As a result, there is NO REASON to use a TRE (or TRE map) if you have these plates removed! Select the appropriate map for your application from the map notes using your Power Commander USB Program..It doesnt matter how fast you open the flies if they are NOT THERE!!!

Another note: We are working on mapping for use with the TRE-006A. WARNINGthis locks the bike in the neutral map. We have proven this to SLOW YOU DOWN at the drag strip!! But it does help prevent decel pop on the street....not sure WHY anyone would want to slow down their ZX-14? But we will have the new -006A maps soon if anyone wants them. Please send an e-mail asking for them directly to mapsupport@brockracing.com or fill out the previously approved form and ask in the comment section.

Guys,

Someone on bikeland.org is questioning my mapping at zero percent throttle up to 6K+ RPM..apparently he has never drag raced!

It is CRITICAL for the launch RPM to stay constant when launching a bike from a dead stop. If I am in first gear with the clutch pulled in close to the point of engagement (especially with an extended swingarm), I will want to hold the bike at the best RPM which allows me to launch the hardest without causing a wheelie or spinning the tire. Same deal with a stock armjust at a lower RPM.

If the RPM creeps up or down (surging, pulsing, etc.), it will be VERY difficult to launch correctly. Since ZERO MPH operation and no load on the engine required very little throttle input, we map the bike at higher RPM's at 0, 2, and 5% throttle openings. There is overlap between the areas, so it IS possible to see higher RPMs at VERY low openings. This mapping technique only affects the smoothness of the launch and not the overall drivability or fuel mileage because the throttle position changes so dramatically once a load is placed on the engine.

Soooo- I trust that none of you will share this information to the general public and respond appropriately knowing that YOU know whats going oneven if you competitors dont!

Good Luck and GO FAST!

Guys,

We have struggled lately with some of the true ZX-14 Power Commanders, Dynojet Part number: 224-411.

Dynojet only gives you a small amount of wire to ground the unit to the frame.Im not sure what they are thinking (probably a simple convenience issue), but frame grounds on bike/engines with painted frames can be a VERY bad idea!

We have had a handful of customers whose bikes WOULD NOT START, or randomly STALLED while moving due to a poor ground connection!

We suggested lengthening the ground wire to travel all the way to the battery, and the problems disappeared.

On our stock by Brock's ZX-14, we make an addtional jumper wire from the frame ground to a ground lug over near the battery.

Speedo Healer -   If you do not have a GPS to set the correct speed, you can simply drive next to a car and compare the speeds.  Example: car is traveling 65 MPH, but your Speedo says 72 MPH.

Afterwards, go to  www.speedohealer.comselect 'set up,' and use the online Calculator to plug in your numbers. It will explain how to calibrate the unit so your Speedo is accurate.

For high speed runs, I use -90%. This means the Speedo will read 21 MPH at 210 MPH.

SH Calibration Value to be stored: -90.0%
SH Conversion mode Value to be stored: 0

  - the ignition must be OFF
  - set ALL SH switches ON
  - turn ON the ignition
  - press the button => memory cleared

  - set ALL switches OFF EXCEPT #4
  - press the button
9
time(s)

  - set #4 switch OFF => all data stored in Flash.

 Good Luck and GO FAST!

Guys,

On multiple occasions lately, I have been approached by customers who have complained about deceleration pop from a ZX-14 in STOCK form after installing our exhaust system.

Example: Pops with NO TRE installed and/or pops with the secondary throttle plates IN PLACE?

After speaking to one of Kawasakis technical representatives about the whole decel pop issue at length last month, we concluded that most deceleration pop is usually caused from a lean condition from the emissions system injecting fresh air into the exhaust ports. Of course, Brocks Performance has known about this for years, and we have cured bikes accordingly. Our ZX-14 systems come with a block-off plug to remedy this situation.

BUT, we also concluded that any type of INTAKE LEAK can also have the same affect by allowing air to enter the intake tract. An improperly or disconnected vacuum hose or loose throttle body to inlet clamp allow unwanted air to enter the engine.

I began forwarding this information to the troubled stock configuration owners.

NEARLY ALL reported that the hose clamps attaching the throttle bodies to the engine inlets NEEDED to be TIGHTENED! Every one responded that, after tightening the clamps, the pop went totally away or became nearly un-noticeable.

I believe the loose clamp situation may also be plaguing the TRE and/or Secondary-plates-removed riders while the situation is being masked as a result of these modifications.

I strongly suggest that ANY ZX-14 owner who is experiencing decal pop should remove the Ferrari body panels and tighten the clamps which attach the throttle bodies to the engine inlets.

I always recommend a genuine Kawasaki manual for guys who intend to do their own maintenance at all.

I go to  www.buykawasaki.com to view parts diagrams and manuals (when available).

Here is a diagram of the cylinder head which shows the clamps to tighten: #92171

I can't make the link work ...

1. Go to www.buykawasaki.com
2. select ZX-14
3. select parts diagrams
4. select cylinder head
5. the clamps to tighten are #92171

Also note: There is a problem associated with a RICH condition as a result of removing the secondary throttle plates as confirmed by my data logger. We are working on it. Unfortunately, any cure also leads to a slower bike which does not run as smoothly during accelerationwe are working on this also.

Of course, the rich situation would intensify the decel popping if there is also a leak through the clamps.

Good Luck and go fast!

Brock

Guys,

I have run into a problem lately that I want to warn you about.

If the buttons on your power commander have EVER been adjusted, they must be RESET back to ZERO for our maps to function correctly! FYIit is a good idea to reset the buttons and re-install our maps every once in a while just to be sure all is well as part of your maintenance program. We usually do this during an oil change, etc. This is also a good time to be sure your 0 and 100% throttle positions are still correct.

We do not recommend button adjustments at all as they map two-dimensional changes to three-dimensional maps! We have witnessed drivability problems in addition to LARGE HP losses as a result.

We recommend resetting the buttons with your computer instead of trying to reset them with the buttons.

The explanation for this is very long; please just follow the instructions below.

Dynojet has tutorials on how to perform these items:

http://www.powercommander.com/tut_download.shtml

See USB tutorial Number 10 for instructions on How to reset the Zero and 100% throttle position values.

See USB tutorial Number 11 for instructions on How to reset a USB Power Commander.

Good Luck and GO FAST!

ZX-14 owners,

Its not a bad idea for you to also browse the Hayabusa Test and Race Information. Many of the items listed to speed up the Busa will also speed up the ZX-14!

The chain mod listed is too difficult to do on the 14s because the o-rings are so small that they are nearly impossible to remove. But, a non-o-ring chain can help power just as much. The fully synthetic oil recommendation is a MUST to keep the clutch alive in the 14 and the MR9 will also help keep the fuel system clean.

Use your own judgment.

I will also be updating the TRE story as soon as I have changed my mind about removing the secondary throttle plates. Scroll down to the June 25 2006

area and read my changes.

Good Luck and GO Fast!

June 27, 2006

Our new map structure and labeling is as follows:

TRACK MAP- for use on the drag strip with air cleaner removed using oxygenated fuel (MR9, U4, etc.)

STREET MAP- for use on the street with air cleaner installed using pump gas (any octane - we dyno with BP93)

Note: it is not necessary to switch maps back and forth, BUT the best drivability and performance will be noticed if you do.

TRE installed= IVAN TRE part # TRE-008 for ZX-14 added

NOSEC= Secondary throttle plates removed

So

BPP-ZX14-06-Smeg-NB-ZX106_TRACK-NOSEC_MAP1.djm

Is for use in a ZX-14 (-ZX-14), year 2006 (-06) with our Street Megaphone (-Smeg) with NO BAFFLE (-NB) For TRACK use with the Secondary throttle plates removed (-NOSEC) _ MAP1 is the first of a series more COULD follow if required.

Brocks Performance recommends removing the Secondary Throttle Plates for SERIOUS street and race use. Some low rpm drivability is reduced, even with the correct map installed....but it is not unbearable.

This drivability issue is not the worst problem to have, but we would like you to make an informed decision before attempting this modification. We have no problem recommending the removal of the plates for all-out race use, especially with longer chassis bikes launching at higher RPMs.

The secondary plates are held in place with heat-sensitive thread locker.  Have a FIRE EXTINGUISHER, long needle-nose pliers (or hemostats), and magnet ready at all times. In NO INSTANCE should you feel the need to open the gas at the grip - to do so could cause a screw to fall into your intake tract!

To remove the secondary plates:

  1. Heat the lower section of the appropriately sized Phillips Head screwdriver with a propane torch (a soldering iron on the tip can also be used as long as no direct flame is present near the throttle bodies - they are full of GAS FUMES!) Be sure to use a new or near-new screwdriver. Stripping the screw heads will cause BIG PROBLEMSyou only want to attempt this once and get it right the first time. Do not heat the tip directly. We heat around 1.5 inches from the tip to (attempt) to prevent damage to the heat treat on the screwdriver.
  2. After heating to a slight glow, place the screwdriver in the screw and start to apply steady pressure to loosen. As the heat dissolves the thread locker, continually attempt to loosen the screw. DO NOT FORCE - allow time for the heat to do its job!
  3. Once the screws are removed, then remove the throttle plate and continue on to the next intake tract until all plates and screws are removed.
  4. Install the appropriate Brocks Performance map for your application.

I have begun these instructions intentionally in the middle of the entire procedure. If you do not understand how to get to this point, then DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS MODIFICATION on your own.

Good Luck and GO FAST!

Brock

June 17, 2006

At the moment, my Diaries are the best source of information on the ZX-14.

Part 2 of the Diary should be up by this weekend, June 17-18.

The Busa Test and Race Information is VERY HELPFUL on the ZX-14...we use parts of it every day during our dyno testing.

I will add more information to the ZX-14 section as I find it.

Important items to this point include:

1.We run the oil at the low level in the windowI have not tried to go lower because the way you find out about how far TOO LOW isis to DESTROY your engine!

The low level in the window is the lowest level
Kawasaki engineers have marked for SAFE operation.

BUT!!! Do not run your oil level this low if you like to do Wheelies!

2. DO NOT remove your secondary throttle plates! Your bike will run like sh*t until I get maps made.

I hope to get to this mapping the beginning of this week.

One last note: The reason this section is PRIVATE is because we dont want anyone using it against BROCKS PERFORMANCE CUSTOMERS.

If I see anyone posting private information in public forums I will revoke your Owners' Group privileges and take you out of our map Support program.

Ill add more as soon as possible.
