Brocks/Ohlins drag shock and lowering

I bought a used Brocks  by Ohlins zx14 drag shock.  I noticed the original owner had the length adjuster screwed all the way in making the shock as short as it will go.  Obviously (I think anyway) this will lower the rear of the bike.  My question is what affect does this have on the motorcycle compared to lowering the same amount via the lowering links?
 
 
The man on top of the mountain didn't fall there.

You are correct, shortening the shock will lower the bike also. On the ZX-14 suspension linkage this will also give you slightly more ground clearance at your pivot link vs making all of your adjustment via the dog bones exclusively.

thank you Brock.  are there any undesirable side effects of shortening the shock?

No. Since shortening the shock is in a linear direction, there are no adverse effects whatsoever.
