Recent question from a customer:

I have a Bmw1000r '11 model and i go with PCV(plus i had removed the two Oxyzen sensor of the exhaust system)when i make a map to the dyno everything are perfect and with very good results from the stock map.But when the bike goes to road something happend and the stock ECU turn at safe mode and the bike is slow.I removed the PCV and the bike is still fast as stock map.Why that happend i made something wrong? Can you give me an answer?"

For your BMW problem: of course, your situation is not natural. Please try another PCV – maybe you have a bad unit? We have installed many of these and sold hundreds, what you are describing is not an issue.

Next, has the bikes ECU ever been adjusted internally? There are ‘clicker boxes’ available now which allow the ECU to be adjusted. Similar to the Yoshimura clicker box. Bren Tuning makes one here in the US. This is another one of those situations, where if the ECU has been internally adjusted - once a power commander has been installed (since it is a piggyback unit)… All of the mapping changes from the power commander are ADDED to the adjusted maps in the ECU. This can cause the duty cycle of the adjusters to travel well beyond their limits and may trick the bike into going into a ‘limp mode’ to prevent damage. Once the PCV is removed, the bike goes back to normal operation. If the PCV is to be run, the bikes ECU will have to be returned to the factory settings using the ECU tuner.

I hope this helps,

Brock

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SET (OR RESET) THE THROTTLE POSITION USING THE POWER COMMANDER SOFTWARE!

They are pre-set from the factory and require no adjustment. If you decide to tinker with this option in your power commander, the ONLY way to properly adjust it for the power commander on your bike is on a dyno, at wide open throttle, using the mouse to click reset, above 8200 rpm when the THROTTLE BLADES (not throttle position or grip sensor) is at 100%.

If you read this warning too late, you can try to manually enter the settings below to cover your tinkering ass:

Here are the TPS Settings used during the development of the maps sent via the Brocks Performance Map Support program for the BMW S 1000 RR, just in case you need to reset yours manually, for some reason (such as the inability to leave things ALONE! ;)

As of 8-2010:

CT Single, CT Meg, Gen 3 and Street Meg (Race and/or Street maps):

0% = 0.551

100% = 4.339

Alien Head (Race and/or Street maps):

0% = 0.518

100% = 3.818

Aftermarket products NOT available from Brocks Performance: As a general rule, if you don't see a particular product available in our Brock's Performance store.. Its because we do not consider it worth selling. We use what we sell and we sell what we use. We pay little or no attention to market trends or fancy product marketing. The bottom line is this; if Brock feels that a particular product should be used on your motorcycle to make it BETTER in any way, we try to make it available through Brocks so that we can provide the highest level of customer support possible. If a particular product is not listed in our store (example: aftermarket gauze type air cleaners for STREET use) it's because we have found them to be no advantage compared to stock. We don't want you to waste your money any more than you do and we certainly don't want to direct you to purchasing a product which will slow you down.

Naturally, there are some exceptions to this rule for particular use (street/drag race/land speed/road race/grudge race with large displacement engines etc.) we recommend calling our technical support staff for specifics.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our map structure and labeling is as follows:

TRACK MAP- for use on the drag strip with air cleaner removed (Brock's Air Box Lid Installed) using oxygenated fuel (MR9, MR11, MR12 etc.) **DO NOT ride on the street with the air cleaner removed**

STREET MAP- for use on the street with air cleaner installed using pump gas (any octane- we dyno with BP93 for street use in hot conditions. 87-89 usually makes more power if the bike NEVER PINGS.if it does, convert to 91 or 93 Octane immediately)

Note: it is not necessary to switch maps back and forth- BUT, the best drivability and performance will be noticed if you do.

ALWAYS CHECK THE MAP NOTES FOR SPECIFIC DETAILS

Because the BMW is so new, we will add items as we track test - please understand that testing takes TIME to perform properly.
